The State Council of the People's Republic of China has approved to extend the Value-Added Tax (VAT) pilot reform to new industry sectors including construction, real estate, finance and consumer services from 1 May 2016. According to the draft legislation, 11% tax may be levied on property and construction companies, while a 6% rate may apply to consumer services industries. It is anticipated that the VAT reform will bring significant benefits to enterprises. Under the deepening VAT reform, the local tax burden for millions of taxpayers engaged in these four industry sectors will be greatly reduced.
