The letter of credit is one of the important payment methods in international trade. Its application has been highlighted once again subsequent to the weathering of financial tsunami. This workshop will explain the basic concepts and operations of the letter of credit to allow you to gain a deeper understanding of the use of this payment term.

Course outline:
1. When an exporter receives a L/C, what should they examine in detail to avoid unreasonable terms which may result in documentary discrepancies?
2. What are the risks undertaken by a seller involved in the trade term of FOB? If a buyer requests to adopt this trade term, what kinds of methods can the seller adopt to minimize the risks under L/C payment?
3. 20 common discrepancies found in the letters of credit. How to increase awareness of these discrepancies so as to avoid similar problems found in the banking documents?
4. When an exporter prepares a set of banking documents for the letter of credit, what areas should they pay attention?
5. If the banking documents were found with discrepancies, how can the seller instruct the presenting bank to handle the problems involved?
6. If the banking documents were lost during dispatch to the issuing bank, how can we ensure the issuing bank will still undertake the payment?
7. Could the advising bank refuse to advise the L/C because the beneficiary has not yet settled the advising charges?
8. Case Sharing
