Amidst a perceptible growth in complaints recently within the local business community on the issue of difficulties in opening bank accounts, the Chamber is pleased to have invited Mr George Leung, Advisor to the Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive of HSBC, Asia Pacific to a special session at the Chamber on 4 August.

As part of the proceedings, Mr Leung and his colleague in charge of business banking will explain the conditions under which banks in Hong Kong are required to operate as a result of intergovernmental efforts to fight financial crime, money laundering and tax evasion. There will also be opportunity for participants to raise questions and provide feedback on the issue of accessing basic banking services.

It is hoped that, through this session, participants will obtain a better understanding of the operating environment that banks are subjected to. It is also hoped that the session will be useful in helping participants re-engage their bank of choice with a view to reaching an amicable and satisfactory resolution.
